President Trump Signs Bill Ending Longest Government Shutdown in U.S. History.

After a historic 43-day stalemate, President Donald Trump signed legislation to fund the government, bringing an end to the longest shutdown in United States history.

The bill, which was passed by both the Senate and the House earlier in the day, restarts funding for federal agencies through January 30 and aims to restore disrupted services nationwide. During the more than six weeks of the shutdown, hundreds of thousands of federal workers went without pay, airport operations were delayed, and food assistance programs faced interruptions.

Negotiations between Democrats and Republicans repeatedly stalled over demands related to healthcare subsidies and privacy provisions linked to investigations after the January 6 Capitol riot.

Democratic opposition was particularly strong regarding the absence of extended health insurance for millions, while Republicans blamed the stand-off on partisan deadlock and sought damages for privacy violations stemming from previous federal investigations.

House Speaker Mike Johnson presided over the final congressional session as lawmakers wrestled with amendments and voiced frustration over prolonged gridlock in Washington.

Opinion polls show Americans divided over who to blame, with nearly equal numbers blaming both parties for the duration and impact of the shutdown.

With President Trump’s signature, the government resumes full operations, though both chambers are expected to revisit unresolved issues including healthcare funding in upcoming sessions.
