Mesut Ozil final calls it to an end on his blistering football career. He signed a one year contract with İstanbul Başakşehir last year and has decided to bring a close to his footballing career.
He has had a difficult couple of years, having fallen out with Arsenal and struggling with form and injuries in Fenerbahçe, he was a shadow of himself at the latter stage of his career.

Ozil started his career at Schalke 04
In 2005 and moved to Werder Bremen on the 31st of January 2008. Ozil later became a pivotal part of the team, finishing as the league's top assist provider. Ozil was pushed further into the limelight after his dazzling display at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. After the World Cup, Ozil signed for Real Madrid after multiple clubs tried to get him.

Ozil made his Real Madrid debut on the 22nd of August in a friendly match against Hércules. Ozil took over the number 10 jersey at the start of the 2011/2012 season, Real Madrid won the Spanish league title that same season, and Ozil was an essential part of the squad. Ozil also finished the season as a top assist provider. Ozil left Real Madrid, having had a spectacular time at Santiago Bernabéu. In April 2011, Ozil created 12 chances, the most in a single in Champions League history.


On the 2nd of September 2013, Ozil joined Arsenal for a club record fee. He helped them end their trophy drought by winning the FA cup. Ozil was an influential and indispensable part of the Arsenal squad as he helped them win another FA cup. He set numerous records while at Arsenal, including creating the most chances in a league campaign and creating the most chances in a single game. He was also a top assist provider in the Premier League.

Ozil also had success with the German national team, winning the 2014 FIFA World cup and finishing as a top assist provider. He won a record 5 German player of the year award. Ozil is the only player to finish as a top assist provider in Bundesliga, EPL, Laliga, Euros, Champions League, and the World Cup. He was the last of his kind and was indeed magical to watch.
