Mark Zuckerberg launched the long awaited social media app Threads which is poised to rival Elon Musk's Twitter after recent issues and glitches marred Twitter app.
The "Threads, an Instagram app" has similar Twitter features and ties to Instagram. One can automatically follow one's Instagram followers all at once. Posts can also be shared between Threads and Instagram. Threads allows users to post up to 500 characters.
Last week saw Twitter limit the number of posts users can see, that move caused outrage on Twitter. Since Elon Musk takeover of the social media app, it has experienced lots of glitches and some of his move such as paying to get verified has caused upheaval.
Threads is available worldwide except in the EU which is yet to give regulatory approval. In the first seven hours of launch Threads gained over ten million sign ups. Meta, its parent company, will seek to draw hundreds of millions of users from its huge Instagram audience in order to push Threads above Twitter.
