Donald Trump appears to be gaining momentum in the 2024 U.S. presidential election against Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.
Trump has secured victories in several key states, including Georgia and North Carolina, two crucial battleground states. Early projections show Trump leading in Georgia, though the race remains tight. The former president has also won Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia.
In terms of electoral college votes, Trump is currently ahead with 177 votes, while Harris trails with 99. Each candidate is aiming for the magic number of 270 electoral votes to secure the presidency.
The race remains extremely close in several swing states:
- Pennsylvania (19 electoral votes): Projected winner is Trump.
- Michigan (15 electoral votes): Very early data shows Harris ahead, but the situation is fluid.
- Wisconsin (10 electoral votes), Arizona (11 electoral votes), and Nevada (6 electoral votes): No definitive results yet.
Trump's campaign appears to have defied some exit poll predictions that favored Harris. The former president has also maintained his lead among white voters and has made inroads with men, cutting Harris's once double-digit lead to single digits among this voting group.
