Pakistan Urged U.S. to Halt Israeli Plans to Target Top Iranian Officials

A Pakistani intelligence official has told Reuters that Israel dropped plans to assassinate Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf after Pakistan appealed to the United States to intervene.

According to the source, Israeli intelligence had pinpointed the movements and locations of both senior Iranian figures and was preparing to carry out targeted strikes. Concerned about the potential fallout, Islamabad reportedly contacted Washington, insisting that such an operation would destroy any remaining diplomatic channels with Tehran.

“The Israelis had exact coordinates and were ready to act,” the Pakistani official was quoted as saying. “We told the Americans it would eliminate any chance for dialogue. The U.S. then asked Israel to back down.”

So far, neither the Israeli government nor U.S. officials have publicly commented on the report, and Tehran has not issued a response.

The alleged intervention highlights Pakistan’s emerging role as a quiet intermediary amid rising tension between Israel and Iran following recent regional flare-ups. Observers say that preventing the killing of key Iranian leaders may have helped ease pressure in an already volatile Middle East.
