Death toll hits 2000 in Morocco earth.

The death toll in Morocco after a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck the central region has passed 2000 with hundreds more critically injured and many more still missing.

Rescuers are still searching and pulling out survivors from collapsed homes across the region. Algeria has opened its airspace to flights to and from Morocco after closing it in 2021 after a breakdown in diplomatic relations.

Dozens of countries have offered condolences and support. The Israeli government has dispatched a rescue team to the North African nation, Türkiye has said it's sending 1000 tents and 200+ search and rescue personnel. Other countries across the world are also offering help to the Moroccans.

Thousands of people spent the night on the streets as they waited for temporary accommodation. Morocco’s King Mohammed VI declared three days of national mourning. The death toll is expected to rise as rescuers find more bodies under the rubble.
