Jürgen Klopp’s first two matches as Germany head coach have ended without a victory, with Germany drawing 1–1 against the Netherlands before suffering a historic 1–0 defeat to Greece in the UEFA Nations League.

Jürgen Klopp’s much-anticipated start as Germany coach has produced mixed results after his opening two Nations League matches.

Germany began the new era with a 1–1 draw against the Netherlands in Amsterdam. Felix Nmecha gave Germany the lead in the 32nd minute, but Cody Gakpo equalised in stoppage time to deny Klopp a winning debut.

Four days later, Germany returned home to face Greece in Augsburg but suffered a 1–0 defeat, Klopp’s first loss as national team coach. Dimitrios Kourbelis scored the decisive goal in the 74th minute after his effort took a deflection.

The result was particularly notable as it marked Greece’s first-ever victory over Germany. Germany struggled to break down the Greek defence despite creating several opportunities, while goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis made important saves to keep his side in the game.

Klopp now has one point from his first two matches, with Germany sitting third in Nations League Group A2. The former Liverpool manager will look to use the upcoming fixtures to continue building his squad and establish his playing philosophy.

Despite the difficult start, Klopp has previously stressed that the team needs time to develop, particularly with new players adapting to his system. The early results have provided the new Germany coach with plenty to assess as he begins his rebuilding project.
