European Football Weekend Wrap Up

It was a crucial game week in the English Premier League this weekend as Arsenal reclaimed the top of the table spot after their Champions League elimination earlier this week by beating Wolves 2-0 at Moleneux Stadium as Brentford ran riot on Luton with a 5-1 victory. Sheffield United lost 4-1 to Burnley in the battle of the relegation zone. Liverpool went back to winning ways as they beat Fulham 3-1 in an all important game for the Reds.

The FA cup saw semifinal action this weekend as Manchester City grabbed a late winner over Chelsea, thanks to a goal by Bernado Silva in the 84th minute. After leading 3-0 and then playing 3-3 in regular time thanks to a late Coventry penalty, Manchester United won 4-2 on penalties to book a place in the final against Manchester City later in May.

Bayern continued their strong end to the season by beating Union Berlin 5-1 the same week they knocked Arsenal out of the UEFA Champions League. Dortmund came up against Already crowned Champions Bayer Leverkusen at Signal Iduna Park with the game ending 1-1 thanks to another late Leverkusen equalizer to keep their 45 game unbeaten streak alive. Liepzig won 2-1 against Heidenheim in their battle for European football next season.

In Serie A, Juventus came from 2-0 down to earn a late draw against Cagliari as Napoli lost 1-0 away to Empoli. Roma play Bologna on Monday as AC Milan play Inter in the Milan derby at the San Siro.


Laliga saw the return of El Clasico this weekend as Real Madrid played a thrilling 3-2 against FC Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday. Atletico Madrid failed to tightened their grip in the fight for European qualification as they lost 2-0 against Alaves on Sunday.
