Donald Trump has warned that Australia would be making a “terrible humanitarian mistake” if it allows Iran’s national women’s soccer team to be sent back to Tehran. He claimed the players would most likely face serious danger if they returned to Iran.
Trump appealed directly to the Australian prime minister, urging the government not to force the team back. He called on Australia to instead grant the players asylum, describing the situation as an urgent human rights issue.
“Don’t do it, Mr. Prime Minister, give ASYLUM,” Trump said in a strong message to Australia’s leadership. He argued that the players could face severe consequences because of the political climate and the treatment of women in Iran.
Trump also offered the United States as an alternative refuge if Australia refuses to grant asylum. He said the U.S. would be willing to accept the team and provide them with safety.
The intervention has drawn global attention to the fate of the Iranian players. It has also turned their asylum request into a broader debate about women’s rights and protection for athletes fleeing political risk.
