Harry Kane Wins 2026 Ballon d’Or, Ends England’s 25-Year Wait

Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane has been named the winner of the 2026 men’s Ballon d’Or, becoming the first English player to receive the prestigious award since Michael Owen in 2001.

The England captain received the honour at the 70th Ballon d’Or ceremony, held at the London Palladium on Monday, following an outstanding 2025–26 season for both club and country.

Kane enjoyed a remarkable campaign with Bayern Munich, scoring 61 goals in 51 appearances as the German giants secured a domestic league and cup double. His impressive goalscoring record rose to 73 across club and international competitions.

The 33-year-old also played a key role in England’s World Cup campaign, scoring six goals as the Three Lions advanced to the semi-finals.

His victory ended England’s 25-year wait for a Ballon d’Or winner, with former Liverpool striker Michael Owen previously claiming the honour in 2001.

Kane also received the men’s Striker of the Year award during Monday’s ceremony, further recognising his exceptional performances throughout the season.

The Ballon d’Or is widely regarded as football’s most prestigious individual accolade, honouring the world's best players through votes cast by an international panel of journalists.
