US Congressman Joe Wilson: Russian Drone Attack on Poland “An Act of War”

American lawmaker Joe Wilson has accused Russia of committing “an act of war” against NATO after drones struck Polish territory, escalating fears of a wider conflict sparked by Moscow’s assault on Ukraine.

U.S. Representative Joe Wilson sharply condemned the reported drone intrusions into Poland, declaring that Russia is directly targeting a NATO ally with Iranian-made Shahed drones. “Russia is attacking NATO ally Poland with Iranian Shahed drones. This is an act of war,” Wilson said in a statement.

His comments come after Polish authorities confirmed that drones linked to Russia’s ongoing campaign in Ukraine crossed into Poland’s airspace, some of which were intercepted and shot down by the country’s armed forces.

Polish military officials described the incident as an unprecedented violation and stressed that their defensive systems were immediately activated to protect citizens.

Wilson’s remarks underscore growing U.S. concerns that Russia’s war in Ukraine is destabilizing European security and could potentially trigger NATO’s Article 5 mutual defense clause if attacks on allied territory escalate further.

NATO has not yet formally responded, but the alliance has repeatedly warned that it will defend every inch of its members’ territory from external threats.
