Resolution introduced calling for Charlie Kirk to lie in state in the US Capitol Rotunda

A group of Republican lawmakers has introduced a resolution proposing that conservative activist Charlie Kirk be honored with the rare distinction of lying in state in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda.

The resolution, unveiled Thursday, lauds Kirk for his leadership as the founder of Turning Point USA and his influence in shaping grassroots conservative activism across the country.

If passed, the measure would mark an unprecedented occasion, as the honor of lying in state has historically been reserved for presidents, prominent members of Congress, military leaders, and other figures of national significance.

Supporters of the resolution argue that Kirk’s contributions to political discourse and youth engagement warrant recognition at the highest level.

“Charlie Kirk has inspired countless young Americans to embrace their civic duty and stand firm in their values,” said Rep.

Mark Davidson (R-OH), one of the resolution’s co-sponsors. “It is fitting that we recognize his lasting impact on American politics in the most solemn and historic manner possible.”

The proposal will be referred to the House Committee on House Administration before potentially advancing to a floor vote.

Even if approved by the House, the measure would require bipartisan consensus in both chambers to move forward.
