Slovak Premier Fighting for Life After Assassination Attempt.

Slovakia’s prime minister, Robert Fico, was shot multiple times in the abdomen on Wednesday in his latest assassination attempt.
 
Fico is a veteran politician who has notably aligned with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbanin opposing aid to Ukraine and challenging mainstream opinions within the European Union.
 
He was taken to a hospital after the assault in the town of Handlova, close to the country’s capital. The extent of Fico’s injuries was not immediately known.

There was no immediate comment from the prime minister’s office or from the police. But an individual has been arrested in connection with the attack, although the identity has been kept from the media.
 
Fico, who previously served as Prime Minister before resigning in 2018 amidst a host of corruption accusations and protests after the killing of an investigative journalist who had been looking into government graft, just returned to power after winning the general elections back in September 2023.

More news is expected to follow from the prime minister’s office, as well as a report by the police.
