Putin and Pezeshkian Meet in Turkmenistan Amid Rising Middle East Tensions.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held their first in-person meeting in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, during an international forum.

The meeting highlighted the strengthening ties between Russia and Iran, two nations facing Western sanctions.

Putin emphasized the "very close" alignment of views between the two countries, particularly on international issues. He noted that relations with Iran are a priority for Moscow, as both nations often share similar perspectives on global events.

Pezeshkian echoed these sentiments, stating that the relationship between Iran and Russia is sincere and improving across cultural, economic, and social domains.

The discussions took place against a backdrop of escalating tensions in the Middle East, following Iran's recent missile strike on Israel. Both leaders condemned Israel's actions in the region and expressed concerns over Western support for Israeli operations.

The deepening partnership between Russia and Iran has raised alarms in Washington and London, especially regarding military cooperation involving ballistic missiles and drones.

During the meeting, Pezeshkian accepted Putin's invitation to visit Russia later this month for the upcoming BRICS summit.

This visit is expected to further solidify the strategic alliance between the two countries.
