Nigeria leads nominations for the 2025 Grammy’s Best African Music Performance category.

Nigerian music artists have dominated the nominations for the Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Grammy Awards.

The Recording Academy announced the nominations on Friday.

This year, Nigeria shines in the category, with returning nominees Burna Boy and Asake leading the pack. Burna Boy earns a nomination for his hit “Higher,” while Asake secures a nod for his collaboration with Wizkid on the track “MMS.”

Davido also earns his second nomination in this category for his feature on Chris Brown’s “Sensational,” alongside Lojay, who picks up his first Grammy nomination for the same song.

Yemi Alade celebrates her first solo Grammy nod with her track “Tomorrow,” and Tems receives a nomination for “Love Me Jeje” in the Best African Music Performance category.

Notably, Tems is the only African artist with three nominations in the global music categories; her debut album “Born in the Wild” is in contention for Best Global Music Album, and her song “Burning” is nominated for Best R&B Song.

Young star Rema also secures a nomination in the Best Global Music Album category for his sophomore album, “HEIS.”

Other Nigerian artists nominated include Jordan Adetunji, known for his viral hit “Kelani,” and Bloody Civilian, whose track on the Bob Marley “One Love” soundtrack is up for Best Reggae Album.

This marks Burna Boy’s sixth consecutive Grammy nomination, making him the Nigerian artist with the most nominations to date. Since Burna Boy’s first nomination for Best Global Music Album in 2020, and his win in 2021 for “Twice as Tall,” African music has seen greater recognition on the global stage.

Internationally, Beyoncé leads with 11 nominations for her genre-blending album “Cowboy Carter,” competing in categories including Record, Song, and Album of the Year, along with Pop, Rap, Country, and Americana.

Other top nominees include Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and Post Malone with seven nominations each, followed by Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, and Sabrina Carpenter, each with six.

The 67th Grammy Awards will be held on February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, United States.
