Deadly 6.8 magnitude earthquake strikes Morocco.

A deadly 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Morocco on Friday night.

The earthquake hit the ancient city of Marrakech, with the epicenter being the High Atlas mountains.

State news media pinged the death toll at 297 so far, with more casualties expected as rescuers reach the worst affected areas.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), "There was a 34% chance that between 100-1,000 people would have perished".

The Indian Prime Minister has sent his condolences and offered assistance along with the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The full extent of the damage and death toll won't be known for days as rescuers comb through the destruction amidst the risk of afteshocks.
