George Foreman, the legendary two-time heavyweight boxing champion and Olympic gold medalist, passed away on March 21, 2025, at the age of 76, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on January 10, 1949, in Marshall, Texas, Foreman began boxing at 17 and quickly rose to prominence. He secured a gold medal at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, marking the start of a remarkable career.
Foreman's professional journey was highlighted by significant victories, including a dominant win over Joe Frazier in 1973 to claim the heavyweight title. However, he faced a notable defeat to Muhammad Ali in the 1974 "Rumble in the Jungle," a fight that remains iconic in boxing history.
After a brief retirement in 1977, Foreman made an extraordinary comeback in 1987. At 45, he became the oldest heavyweight champion by defeating Michael Moorer in 1994, cementing his legacy as one of the sport's greats.
Beyond boxing, Foreman found success as an entrepreneur, notably with the George Foreman Grill, which sold over 100 million units worldwide.
Foreman is survived by his 12 children, five of whom he named George. His death has prompted tributes from figures like Mike Tyson, Scottie Pippen, and William Shatner, reflecting his profound impact both in and out of the ring.
