Trump Says Phase Two of Gaza Deal ‘Is Moving Along’ and Will Happen Soon
U.S. President Donald Trump said phase two of his Gaza ceasefire deal “is moving along” and “will happen soon,” insisting the agreement remains on track even as clashes in the enclave and political resistance on both sides raise questions about the viability of the next stage of his peace plan.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump touted the progress of his U.S. brokered Gaza deal, saying the second phase of the plan was advancing and would begin “pretty soon,” while declining to give a specific timeline.
He argued that the broader Middle East was “at peace” under his initiative and claimed strong international backing for the effort, even as Israeli strikes and militant attacks continued to test the fragile ceasefire.
Phase one of the deal has focused on a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, and the pullback of Israeli forces inside Gaza, all supported by mediation from regional powers including Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye.
Phase two is envisioned to include the creation of a new governing mechanism for Gaza, the deployment of a multinational security force and the gradual disarmament of Hamas, steps that remain contested and have yet to be fully agreed by the parties.
Trump’s assurances about the second phase come amid mounting complications, including fresh attacks in Rafah, far-right opposition in Israel’s political system and concerns from Palestinian families over the fate of remaining hostages and the terms of Gaza’s future governance.
Diplomats and analysts say the next stage will depend on sustained international pressure and a willingness by both Israel and Hamas to compromise, warning that any major escalation could derail the process despite the president’s optimistic timeline.
